Dear CCSD 46 Community,
Today’s message is all about planning for the future.
#1 ELearning Days or Snow Days?
On February 16, 2023, our students and staff had an ELearning Day due to a storm prediction. Having an ELearning Day instead of a traditional Snow Day allows students and staff to end the year as originally planned rather than having to extend the school year into June. Some families and staff members may find this beneficial, while others may prefer to have a Snow Day and extend the school year.
At this time, we are seeking feedback on that ELearning Day, as knowing more about the experiences of our families and staff members will help us to make informed decisions for the future. Ultimately, we want to know what our stakeholders did and did not like about the ELearning Day so that we can make decisions about whether we will continue to sometimes have ELearning Days instead of Snow Days, and if we do have ELearning Days, how we can plan them so that they are as positive as possible.
Please share your feedback about this subject through this ThoughtExchange survey. You will have a chance to rate your own satisfaction with the February 16 ELearning Day, provide feedback on whether you prefer Snow Days or ELearning Days, and answer this open-ended question: What successes and challenges did you and/or your family experience related to ELearning on February 16, 2023? If you have participated in ThoughtExchange surveys in the past, you know that you are encouraged to return to the ThoughtExchange periodically while it is open so that you can read and rate other participants’ thoughts. Also, parents/guardians are encouraged to talk with their children about their experiences before participating.
The ThoughtExchange will be open through 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 27. Thank you in advance for your participation as we work together to plan what is best for our school district.
#2 Facilities Options Meetings
This past Monday evening, we held our first Facilities Options Meeting. Mr. Vaughn Dierks of Wold Architects discussed the importance of prioritizing the district’s needs and wants. We shared the ThoughtExchange results that prioritized feedback from the community and staff. The highest rated thoughts from the ThoughtExchange were about:
- STEM Labs
- Educational Adequacy of the Buildings
- Investment in Neighborhood Schools
- Collaborative Learning Spaces
The evening’s participants then divided into groups to discuss the district’s needs and wants and begin to prioritize them. For the next meeting on May 1st, Wold Architects will organize the thoughts and comments from the evening and bring back the preliminary options for consideration.
#3 Earth Day is Saturday, April 22!
As you may know, Earth Day is observed annually on April 22, and was created to demonstrate support for environmental protection. Of course, taking care of our planet is one very important way of planning for the future! Several of our schools have activities planned for students and events for family participation as well. The Woodview School PTO is hosting an Earth Day Celebration (rain or shine!) on Friday with rock painting, planting, and garden tours. The Meadowview School PTO was hosting an outdoor classroom clean-up on Saturday, which has been postponed until May 10 due to weather concerns. The Grayslake Area Public Library also has an all-ages sustainable crafting Go Green Grayslake event tonight from 4:30-6:30 pm, and the College of Lake County has a calendar of Earth Month events with ideas of how to get involved and make an impact in your community. Be sure to watch our social media pages as well as we continue to share out other local area family activities that you may be interested in attending.

#1 ¿Días de Aprendizaje o Días de Nieve?
El 16 de febrero de 2023, nuestros estudiantes y el personal tuvieron un Día ELearning debido a una predicción de tormenta invernal. Tener un Día ELearning en lugar de un día de cierre debido a la nieve permite a los estudiantes y el personal finalizar el año como se planeó originalmente en lugar de tener que extender el año escolar hasta junio. Algunas familias y miembros del personal pueden encontrar esto beneficioso, mientras que otros pueden preferir tener un cierre de emergencia y extender el año escolar.
En este momento, estamos buscando comentarios sobre ese Día ELearning, ya que saber más acerca de las experiencias de nuestras familias y miembros del personal nos ayudará a tomar decisiones informadas para el futuro. #2 Reuniones de Opciones para las Instalaciones
El pasado lunes por la noche, tuvimos nuestra primera Reunión de Opciones para las Instalaciones. Sr. Vaughn Dierks de Arquitectos Wold habló de la importancia de dar prioridad a las necesidades y deseos del distrito. Compartimos los resultados de ThoughtExchange que dio prioridad a la retroalimentación de la comunidad y el personal. Los pensamientos más valorados del ThoughtExchange fueron sobre:

- Inversión en escuelas comunitarias
- Espacios de aprendizaje colaborativo
Los participantes de la noche se dividieron en grupos para analizar las necesidades y deseos del distrito y comenzar a priorizarlos. Para la próxima reunión del 1 de mayo, Wold Architects organizará las ideas y comentarios de la noche y traerá las opciones preliminares para su consideración.
#3 ¡El Día de la Tierra es el sábado 22 de abril!
Como ya sabrán, el Día de la Tierra se celebra anualmente el 22 de abril, y se creó para demostrar el apoyo a la protección del medio ambiente. Por supuesto, cuidar de nuestro planeta es una forma muy importante de planificar el futuro. Varias de nuestras escuelas tienen actividades planeadas para los estudiantes y eventos para la participación de la familia también. El PTO de la escuela Woodview está organizando una Celebración del Día de la Tierra (¡llueva o truene!) el viernes con pintura de rocas, plantación y visitas al jardín. El PTO de la escuela Meadowview estaba organizando una limpieza de las aulas al aire libre para el sábado, que se ha pospuesto hasta el 10 de mayo debido a problemas meteorológicos. La Biblioteca Pública del Área de Grayslake también tiene un evento para todas las edades de artesanía sostenible Go Green Grayslake esta noche de 4:30-6:30pm, y el Colegio de Lake County tiene un calendario de eventos del Mes de la Tierra con ideas de cómo participar y hacer un impacto en su comunidad.
